Young Filipino karate athlete wins bronze in Japan

Philippines-born young athlete Riley Creo joined the Western Australia state squad, Australian delegation to attend his first International training seminar and competition held in Okinawa Japan.

Riley was among the youngest at just 11 years old and is a silver medal awardee at the recently concluded National Australia competition for karate for the Under 12 age group held in Adelaide in July. 

After his nationals award, Riley now represents WA in Japan, where he attended 6-7 hours of daily training from Aug 13-15. From August 16-17, he participated in the first-ever Ryuei-Ryu International Karate Competition 2025, where he achieved Bronze.

Competing among 27 talented athletes from dojos of Japan, Riley showed remarkable dedication, discipline, and fighting spirit throughout the tournament. This achievement is a reflection not only of Riley’s hard work, but also of the guidance and support from coaches, family and the karate community.
