A Taste of the Philippines: Sydney Celebrates Filipino Food Month with Flavourful Festivities

April is celebrated as Filipino Food Month, an annual event in the Philippines dedicated to showcasing the country’s rich culinary heritage.

This month-long celebration aims to promote Filipino cuisine’s diversity and flavours, not just within the Philippines but also on an international stage. The initiative seeks to encourage a broader appreciation for Filipino culinary traditions and distinctive dishes through a series of events, festivals, and promotions.

In Sydney, the festivities for Filipino Food Month are kicking off with an exciting array of events designed to offer a taste of the Philippines’ vibrant food culture.

Pinta at Meryenda

Saturday, 6 April, 2-6pm

Among the highlights is “Pinta at Meryenda,” an event that combines the joy of painting on ceramic canvases with the pleasure of savouring Filipino meryenda snacks, all complemented by sparkling beverages to fuel creativity.

The Boodle Sydney

Sunday, 28 April

Another notable event is “The Boodle Sydney,” which promises an immersive dining experience. Participants will have the chance to engage in a communal feast, a practice known as a “boodle fight,” where diners eat with their hands from a shared table, fostering a unique sense of camaraderie and connection. This event aims to set a new record with the longest boodle table ever assembled.

Beyond Barako

Sunday, 28 April, 4-6pm

Coffee enthusiasts can look forward to “Beyond Barako,” a session dedicated to exploring the rich variety of Philippine coffee beyond the well-known Barako bean. This event will offer insights into the journey of Philippine coffee from bean to cup, highlighting the regional varieties, diverse processing methods, and rich flavours that characterise Filipino coffee.

Filipino Cooking Demonstrations at Paddys Flemington

19-20 April, 26-27 April

Additionally, the Filipino Cooking Demonstrations at Paddys Flemington offer an opportunity for attendees to learn about Filipino cuisine through interactive cooking sessions. Using fresh ingredients from the market, these demonstrations aim to teach quick and easy Filipino recipes, allowing participants to recreate the flavours of the Philippines at home.

Overall, Filipino Food Month in Sydney presents a comprehensive program designed to immerse attendees in the flavours, traditions, and communal spirit of Filipino culinary culture, making it a must-experience event for food lovers and cultural enthusiasts alike.
