‘AUSTRALYANG MARILAG’: Learn the Australian National Anthem in Tagalog

The original composition of Australia’s national anthem ‘Advance Australia Fair’ was written by Peter Dodds McCormick in 1878 and was four verses long. In 1973 the Australia Council for the Arts held the Australian National Anthem Quest competition to find the lyrics and music for a new Australian national anthem.

This year, it was translated in Filipino for the benefit of new Filipino migrants and VCE Filipino students, so that we can deeply feel the emotions of the expressions, as understood through our own language. It helps Filipinos relate to the description of the land and sea, and understand the culture which brings joy and pride to Australians.

The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet in Canberra has provided written confirmation that translated national anthems do not breach protocols in Australia. It is therefore our honour and pride to sing the Australian national anthem in our Filipino language.

ADVANCE AUSTRALIA FAIR

AUSTRALYANG MARILAG

Australians all let us rejoice,

Australyano’y lahat magsaya,

For we are one and free;

Nagkaisa at malaya;

We’ve golden soil; and wealth for toils;

May ginintuang; lupain

Our home is girt by sea;

Paligid ay dagat;

Our land abounds in nature’s gifts

Lupa natin may angking likas

Of  beauty rich and rare;

Ganda’t yamang pambihira;

In history’s page, let every stage

Kasaysayang, mailalahad

Advance Australia fair

Magkapantay Lahat

In joyful strains then let us sing.

Sa tuwa’t hirap awit galak

Advance Australia Fair.

Australyang Marilag.

(REPEAT): In joyful strains then let us sing.

Sa tuwa’t hirap awit galak

Advance AUSTRALIA FAIR.

Australyang Marilag.

Beneath our radiant Southern Cross

Sa kislap ng Timogang Krus

We’ll toil; with hearts and hands;

Puso’t kamay nagtulungan

To make this Commonwealth of ours

Commonwealth natin gampanan

Renowned of all the lands;

Makilalang marangal

For those who’ve come across the seas

Tawid – dagat o sinuman

We’ve boundless plains to share;

Walang hanggang patag tirhan;

With courage let us all combined

May tapang at sama-sama lahat

To Advance Australia Fair.

Australyang bansang tapat

(REP)-  In joyful strains then let us sing.

Sa tuwa’t hirap awit galak

Advance Australia Fair

Australyang Marilag
