Must read

Melbourne, VIC – The Philippine Consulate General (PCG) Melbourne, in collaboration with the Filipino Australian Lawyers Association (FALAW), will host a seminar titled “Understanding Philippine & Australian Property Law: Insights for Filipino Australians” on Thursday, 1 August 2024, from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM at the Consulate General’s office.

The seminar aims to equip Filipino Australians with essential knowledge about the legal and procedural aspects of property ownership in both the Philippines and Australia. This initiative responds to the community’s increasing inquiries and underscores the potential advantages of re-acquiring Filipino citizenship.

Rochelle Castro, President of FALAW, discussed the motivation behind this collaboration, highlighting FALAW’s ongoing commitment to working with the Philippine Consulate General and the Filipino community since its formation last year.

“We have collaborated with the PCG on several occasions, including the visit of the Philippine Supreme Court judges, and have participated in other PCG-sponsored events,” Castro noted.

FALAW identified common legal challenges faced by Filipino Australians, such as inheritance issues, land disputes, and the complexities of property rights in both countries.

“In the Philippines, challenges often revolve around inheritance and land disputes. In Australia, navigating property rights is crucial, and seeking guidance from property experts is essential,” Castro said.

FALAW wants to play a significant role in supporting the community beyond this seminar.

“We bridge the community with legal experts through our membership directory and provide access to other legal resources within the Australian community,” Castro explained.

Looking ahead, FALAW anticipates growing property interests among Filipino Australian immigrants.

“As the community grows, so does the complexity of the property landscape. FALAW aims to provide general guidance to help navigate these complexities,” Castro said.

The seminar targets 50-60 participants, with registration available on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested individuals can register via the following link: Registration Form
