Demi Sorono: ‘A Touch of Grace: Shadow Warrior’

By Pamela Lam, Phunktional

As a young girl born in the Philippines, Demi Sorono, could never dreamed of ever becoming one of Australia’s favourite dancers and a highly accomplished B-Girl. Since her debut on ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ in 2008, Demi has continued to wow crowds with her energy and style.

Demi was a star performer at the Victorian Immigrant and Refugee Women’s Coalition’s Mosaic Festival in April and mesmerised the audience with her amazing dance moves and animated personality.

This is your opportunity to join Demi, Phunktional Limited and the City of Melbourne for a free hip-hop dance workshop and Work in Progress showing of her one-woman show ‘A Touch of Grace: Shadow Warrior.’

‘A Touch of Grace: Shadow Warrior’ is a powerful one-woman show told through hip-hop, physical theatre and song. Showcasing the diverse talents of Demi, Australia’s best female hip-hop dancer, follow her story of hardship as she moves to Australia with her family from the Philippines.

The Work in Progress Showing will be followed by a discussion session with Demi and Phunktional’s Artistic Director, Gerard Veltre. The discussion will also provide feedback on the performance as the group prepares to launch the finished piece at the 2015 Melbourne Fringe Festival.

The session will include a dance workshop and an opportunity to sit back and watch Demi’s performance. Dinner will be provided.
