Everyone is encouraged to turn off their lights for an hour, from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm as a symbolic action to raise awareness about the threats of climate change.

The Philippines has also been consistently at the forefront of the campaign and was dubbed as an Earth Hour champion for several years since the campaign was launched in Australia in 2007.
