Filipino entertainers in and around Australia

Must read

In the coming months, Filipino entertainers will be all around Australia to perform before Filipino audiences. Options are a plenty– you can go all-out singing and dancing with the Pop Princess, turn romantic with renditions from a premier balladeer or the ’90s Kilabot ng mga Kolehiyala,  rock and roll with a novelty band, and or rolling-on-the-floor-laughing lunatic with comedy bar stalwarts and a comedy music legend.

During his hey days in the ’70s and ’80s, his baritone voice left us feeling nostalgic with love songs such as Kumusta Ka, and Never Ever Say Goodbye. Nonoy Zuñiga will perform first in Sydney on 22 June at the Blacktown RSL, then in Brisbane on 23 June at Broncos Leagues Club. He will be backed up by Ronnie Dandan Band plus other local artists in both cities. His musical director is Eric Narvaez. Ticket prices are $55, $65, and $75.

From the meek singer who won a singing competition to her transformation to a fiercer and braver total performer, Sarah Geronimo will take Australia by storm via her coming of age concert 24/SG. Sarah will tour four cities with musical director Louie Ocampo. On 10 August, Sarah will be perform at Evan Theatre Penrith Panthers in Sydney; 11 August, St. Laurence College South Brisbane; 16 August, Woodville Townhall in Adelaide; and 17 August, Dallas Brooks Centre in Melbourne. Guest performers include Jon Santos and G-force. Ticket prices are $95, $110, and $120.

Jam with Pinoy novelty rock and roll band Parokya ni Edgar. Charm ladies with Harana or do a sing-song with simpatiko moves ala Mr. Suave. On 13 September, Parokya will do Melbourne on 13 September at the Croatian Catholic Centre, Sydney on 14 September at The Showroom, Mounties Club, and Brisbane on 15 September, venue still to be announced. Sing, jam, rock, or dance along with Parokya in their Australian tour. Just don’t ask which one is Edgar. Book early and avail of ticket promos.

The title Kilabot ng mga Kolehiyala belonged to Hadji Alejandro in the ’70s. In the ’90s, a new Kilabot emerged in the person of Ariel Rivera. Ariel will perform for two nights at Sydney’s Tivoli Showroom on 27 and 28 September.  Ticket prices are $65 and $75.

Florante’s Handog to his fans is a two-night concert on 4 October at Western Suburbs League Club, and on 5 October at Rooty Hill RSL Club, both in NSW, Sydney. Join Florante for a night of folk music and remember the good ol’ days with Manila sounds. Ticket prices are $55 and $65.

For a night of solid entertainment and laugh trip, gather the bunch for Ms Elizabeth and the Wonder Gays. Expect absolute hilarity and be in stitches all night with the combination of Ms Elizabeth Ramsey’s self-deprecating humour with the flambouyance and sarcasm of Manila’s top comedy bar act–the Wondergays. Of course, Ms Ramsey’s vocal chops still one not to be missed. See them on 26 October in Melbourne. Venue still to be announced. A performance will also be staged in Sydney, details of which will also be announced later.
