Hyatt 10 in Aquino Cabinet to disappoint – Escudero

BY CRIS G. ODRONIA Reporter

Many will be dismayed if most of the so-called Hyatt 10 get Cabinet posts in the next administration.

Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero on Tuesday said many would be “disappointed” if most of the Hyatt 10, all former members of President Gloria Arroyo’s Cabinet, would be on board the administration of Mrs. Arroyo’s most likely successor, Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino 3rd.

Escudero did not name names, but said he would not interfere with Aquino’s selection process for his possible Cabinet members.

Former Cabinet Secretaries Florencio “Butch” Abad (Education), Corazon “Dinky” Soliman (Social Welfare and Development), Avelino Cruz Jr. (Defense), Cesar Purisima (Finance) and Juan Santos (Trade and Industry) were part of the Hyatt 10 who resigned in the wake of the “Hello, Garci” controversy.

The “Hello, Garci” scandal involved a tape containing a wiretapped conversation allegedly between President Arroyo and former poll commissioner Virgilio “Garci” Garcillano on the rigging of the 2004 elections in favor of the President.

Soliman was the only member of the Hyatt 10 whom Aquino had asked to be part of his Cabinet.
