Janine Gutierrez stars with Pepe Herrera in ‘Ikaw’

Janine Gutierrez and Pepe Herrera paired up for the first time for “Ikaw”.  Shot in Bulusan, Sorsogon, the movie is about unexpected love peppered with lots of twists and turns.

Dee played by Janine is an independent Manila girl who has given up on love while Pepe is Edong a coconut farmer who never left his hometown and has never been in love before.

Pepe said that like his character, he is torpe when it comes to love but fearless when it comes to his commitment to a simple life. He shared that his ultimate goal is to eventually settle down in the province. Janine shared the same sentiment, revealing that she is also drawn to living in the province and like Dee her career is her number one priority and she is also a self-confessed “lola’s girl” to her “Mamita”.

Playing Janine’s lola is her real-life grandmother Ms. Pilita Corales. Janine shared that since they have the same relationship on screen, their chemistry was very real and it definitely shows in the movie. However, she also found it very challenging being in the same set as her Mamita, since she often finds herself worrying about her safety i.e. checking if the floor is slippery, if she needs to rest etc.  Janine did say that it was a very good experience and is grateful that she can watch them working together years from now.

The pair shared that just like real life the movie will take you to unexpected places and will remind you that you need to fight for whatever you wish to achieve as long as you deem it to be worthy.

Ikaw is not your stereotypical rom-com. It is not “cheesy” or filled with “kilig” moments but you will find yourself smiling and rooting for the couple.

The movie also stars Vangie Labalan, Dindo Arroyo, Archie Alemania, Nicco Manalo and Faye Lorenzo. It is available to rent from TFC.
