Filipino star basketballer Kai Sotto will get to test himself against the hottest team in the league, the Sydney Kings on Sunday, April 17 at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney.

Kai Sotto came into the NBL with serious credentials, he was set to join the NBA G League Ignite team before joining the 36ers.

Only young prospects with serious upside are considered for the Ignite team. Second overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft Jalen Green, who is also of Filipino descent, played for the Ignite.

Sotto has also represented his country on multiple occasions, playing for the Philippines multiple times as a junior and would have represented his national senior team before the pandemic disrupted national tournament schedules.

For the season so far Sotto is averaging 6.3 points per game and 4.6 rebounds per game, he’s scored over 10 points five times this season and has been a star in the making for the Adelaide 36ers.

He will have to measure himself up against the dominant Kings, who have won 10 in a row and held Sotto to only two points in their last match-up.

The Kings have multiple NBA players and players who will soon be there. Jaylen Adams, Jarell Martin and NBA Champion Ian Clark all played in the NBA. And star Australian player Xavier Cooks will soon be an NBA player if he continues to play the way he has this season.

The Kings also have their own young centre, Makur Maker, the cousin of 10th overall pick Thon Maker. He will match-up against Sotto and the two young centres will battle it out as they both try to make it to the NBA.

The 7’2 Sotto will be a very challenging player to guard for the Kings, but the Kings’ defence has been stellar for the past two months. He will have to have a big game to get the 36ers the win.
