‘Fishing expedition’ led by ruling party

Apparent president-elect Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino 3rd on Thursday brushed aside fraud charges hurled by losing candidates in the May 10 elections, saying that the accusers had embarked on a “fishing expedition.”
“Look at the people who are citing fraud. I think a large number of them were not successful in the recent campaigns. What is surprising is a lot of them are members of the administration,” Aquino told a press conference after his meeting with Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Liu Jianchao.
The leading candidate for president, based on unofficial tallies of votes from the recent fully automated polls, he said that he also found it “strange” that those who cried fraud mostly belonged to the “party in power.”
Aquino of the Liberal Party was referring to the administration coalition, Lakas-Kampi Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD), whose standard-bearer Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro was shown by the unofficial tallies as the fourth-running candidate, trailing the LP bet, former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada and Sen. Manuel “Manny” Villar Jr. of the Nacionalista Party.
