Young Generation’s joyful July Christmas

The historic John Pandazopolous Hall (JPH) at the heart of Doveton was filled with a cheerful spirit of nostalgia as the Young Generation Filipino Seniors Citizens Club (also known as YG) members, officers and guests celebrated Christmas in July Winter Solstice, graced by the presence of JPH Manager Brian Oates and City of Casey Neighbourhood Watch President Damien Rosario.

YG President Maria Norma Patrizi acknowledged former YG President Demetria ‘Nanay Metring’ Reyes for her continued support and encouragement throughout the years, the contribution of YG Officers Rod Bagon (Vice-President), Evelyn Unwin (Treasurer) and Virgie Wright (YG Secretary for over 15 years).

YG Spiritual Director Pastor Eric Maliwat was also recognised for his role in spiritually uplifting the YG Family and for being instrumental in introducing Klaypel and paint-by-stickers artwork to YG seniors. Former Casey Councillor Damien Rosario has invited YG to showcase Klaypel Art at the Cranbourne Merinda Park Learning and Community Centre on October 4.

Pastor Maliwat also shared some exciting news, advocating for Klaypel Art and other Philippine art from Melbourne, including Ed Guevarra’s Ati-Atihan group, to be showcased for the first time at Darling Harbour in Sydney by the end of this year or the next. A Philippine Pasko in Sydney is reportedly also a possibility!

As always, YG excels in terms of generosity, leaving everyone fully satisfied with a delicious dinner, raffle prizes, inclusive performances (Blue Hawaii, HokiLau, YG couples Walts and Mamma Mia) from YG members and dance lessons from very entertaining instructors dancing on the stage. July birthday celebrants also recognised.

YG President Maria Norma Patrizi and fellow officers expressed heartfelt gratitude for a meaningfully uplifting and fun event, acknowledging JPH Manager Oates and former Casey Deputy Mayor Rosario for their tireless support, attendees, numerous prize donors, particularly dedicated student volunteers (doing placement with AFCS) Ronalyn Llanto, Frelyn Francisco, Donna Jean Sorio, Kyle Angieli Paghasian, Ivone Kossy, Johnvhie Roze Ang and Volunteer Coordinator Melanie Lontoc, plus Cristina Kofoed family.
