Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao started a press tour to promote his upcoming bout with former Olympian, primary school teacher and Brisbane native Jeff Horn. This bout is Pacquiao’s first title defence for the title and it will be in front of over 50,000 spectators on 2 July at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
Jeff Horn has faced 10 top 15 world rated opponents in his first 17 pro fights. Jeff Horn is the number 2 ranked Welterweight in the World Boxing Organization (WBO). Horn’s record is 16 wins, undefeated and 1 no contest. He had 11 KO wins at 65% and has boxed a total of 94 rounds. Manny is the current WBO Welterweight World Champion. His record is 59 wins, 6 losses and 2 no contest. Manny has 38 KO victories at 57% and has boxed a total of 443 rounds
Manny is the only eight-division world champion in boxing history, has won eleven major world titles and the first boxer to win the lineal world championship in five different weight classes. In 2010, Manny Pacquiao was elected to the House of Representatives, and in 2016, Pacquiao was elected as Senator in the Philippines.
With Manny reaching what most other boxers only dream about, what motivates Manny? According to the Senator, boxing is his life; it’s his passion and he wants to give back to the people. The Senator added that he wants to entertain by putting on a great fight and wants to see people happy.
Manny is committed with his work as a Senator and is taking his training camp seriously so he can put on a great fight. Team Pacquiao’s training camp will be in the Philippines and will continue for two weeks in Brisbane before the fight. Manny is juggling his time and will modify his training sessions to utilise his time and recovery efficiently.
Legendary promoter Bob Arum who has promoted the greats in the boxing world such as Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard, Floyd Mayweather and Oscar De la Hoya, likens Pacquiao to Ali because of his tireless humanitarian work by helping the citizens of General Santos by building hospitals and in the past donated outboard motors for the local fishermen.
The bout is titled “Battle of Brisbane”. It will be Australia’s largest boxing event, and will definitely make boxing history. Manny gave thanks to all his fans and supporters especially to his fellow countrymen and encouraged them to continue to support and promised that he will put on a great fight.
