Adelaide’s Philippine Consulate Gala raises money for educational development of children in the Philippines

THE INAUGURAL Philippine Consulate Gala was held on 12 February at the world-renowned Adelaide Oval in support of the Australian Foundation for Fostering Learning in the Philippines – a voluntary, non-profit organisation that nurtures and contributes to educational development of children in impoverished areas of the Philippines.

The Honorary Philippine Consul General, Mark McBriarty, hosted more than 400 esteemed guests including South Australian Governor, Hieu Van Le, Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Zoe Bettison, and Minister for Education and Child Development, Susan Close. The event was emceed by distinguished ABC Journalist and Radio Presenter, Ian Henschke.

Guests indulged in an exquisite three-course Filipino inspired menu designed by Dennis Leslie, the Executive Chef of the prominent Hill of Grace Restaurant and Ngeringa, which was accompanied by more than 30 different brands of world-class Clare Valley wines, generously donated by Clare Valley Winemakers Incorporated.

Traditional entertainment was provided by the Filipino Ethnic School of Dance whilst talented Filipino performer, Kissey Gulle, and Adelaide-based band, Smoke and Mirrors, created a vibrant atmosphere and attracted guests to the dance floor at the conclusion of the event’s formalities.
“It was an extraordinary opportunity to showcase the vivacity and splendour of the Philippines while drawing much needed attention to a SA based foundation that fosters the educational development of children in the poorest areas of the country,” said Consul McBriarty.

“It is deeply satisfying to know that 100 percent of all the funds raised at the event will be used to assist the foundation in giving more impoverished students in the Philippines the opportunity to learn and grow.”
