Different types of cosmetic periodontal surgery

To look and feel good, everyone wants to have a perfect smile. However, many of you are dissatisfied with our smiles due to dental issues such as tooth decay, gum disease, and facial injuries. Cosmetic or plastic periodontal surgery is used to improve the appearance of a patient’s smile by addressing issues such as an uneven gum line, missing teeth, and vital operations such as crowns and bridges. It starts with bacteria in the mouth and, if untreated, it can end with tooth loss. On the other hand, periodontal surgery is an excellent solution for a wide range of issues. It can help you attain the dental health and smile you have always desired. Below you can see the types of cosmetic periodontal surgery:

Osseous Surgery

Osseous surgery comes under the type of Periodontal Surgery. It will treat the advanced periodontal disease treatment that focuses on controlling periodontal gum disease deterioration. It involves the treatment of bone tissue, notably reshaping or restoring its ideal form, as the term implies. This is based on the concept that periodontal gum disease will be resolved if the bone and gums have the same contour. Bone reshaping treatments and bone stimulative procedures are two subcategories of osseous surgery. Osteotomy and ostectomy are two bone contouring operations that correct bone abnormalities and restore normal bone shapes. Osteotomy reshapes the bone without removing it. Ostectomy, on the other hand, necessitates the removal of some bone.

Gingival Flap Surgery

One of the types of periodontal surgery is gingival flap surgery, also known as gum lift surgery, for most patients. The gums are recontoured during gum lift surgery to improve the smile’s appearance. It consists of gingivoplasty and gingivectomy procedures. Dentists frequently use the terms interchangeably because they are essentially the same surgery with distinct goals. Gingivoplasty is a procedure that reshapes the gum tissue to remove the unhealthy soft tissue from the pocket’s wall. On the other hand, gingivectomy is a procedure used to recontour gingiva that has lost its typical shape. It entails removing the full area of the gum tissue, not only the diseased tissue.

Mucogingival Surgery

Mucogingival surgery is a type of periodontal surgery that is more difficult. Dentists commonly use this surgery to treat advanced periodontal gum disease, especially when denuded root surfaces need to be covered. This surgery is also recommended for patients with removable dentures, primarily to widen the oral vestibule and relocate free. The gap between the lips, cheeks and teeth is the oral vestibule. The frena is a thin tissue band that runs between the lips and cheeks. The maxillary labial frenum is located beneath your upper lip and placed above the junction of the two upper central incisors. The retention of the removable denture can be improved by increasing the depth of the oral vestibule, and the prosthesis is not dislodged by relocating the frena.

Wrapping it up

As a result, the above mentioned are the different types of cosmetic periodontal surgery. It will treat all your teeth problems, but the treatment and surgery will vary based on your teeth issues. So you should have a clear check-up with the dentist and take the surgery your teeth need.
