PARAÑAQUE, Philippines – The Filipino Australian Health Workers Association (FAHWA) sponsored a Community-Based Reading Program on 11 March in San Antonio Valley 12, Barangay San Isidro, Parañaque City. This is in partnership with the Parañaque National High School-Main SY 2022-2023 and Brigada Pagbasa (GRAB Future and Project ComConnect). In line with the school’s commitment to meet the needs of PNHS students, a reading and feeding program has been set up.

The event was made possible through the generosity of its major sponsors Ms Jenny Ryall of Jenz Diamonds Pty Ltd, Ms Aida Oakdon of Hope Nursing Services, Dr Cheng Valerie Kim, Atty Alan Gomes of Gomes Legal, Ms Eden Aquino and members of FAHWA. Special mention to the efforts of Ms Verna Magnaye, the Program Chairman and SAV12 Learning Space Coordinator and her team of volunteer reading tutors, Mr Ritchie Beloy English Department Head, Mr Roger Crupero OHSP Coordinator and Mr Gerry Lumaban School Principal IV.

A feeding program highlighted by Jollibee meals followed the reading session, which was attended by 135 individuals. This program helps children develop lifelong reading habits, support reluctant readers, increases the child’s knowledge database, motivates them to read for fun, and improves overall reading skills.

It was a productive and fun day of learning for the students of PNHS, aimed at making positive changes to their young lives.
