Man arrested after teenage girl, 14, left fighting for life after suspicious fire

A MAN been charged with rape and arson after a house fire in Melbourne’s west that left a teenager fighting for her life with terrible burns.

The arrest comes after arson and explosives squad detectives conducted detailed investigations at the western suburbs home where the 14-year-old victim had been carried to safety by firefighters.

The Herald Sun said this morning police charged a man with a string of charges including attempted murder, criminal damage by fire, reckless conduct endangering life, intentionally cause serious injury, reckless cause serious injury, rape, sexual penetration of child under 16 and aggravated burglary person present.

The 24-year-old Tarneit man was arrested earlier by Arson Squad detectives and was still being interviewed over the house fire in Caroline Spring that left the teenage girl in an induced coma.
