KATIPS is a musical drama by PhilStagers Film Company portraying the lives and tribulations of student activists during Martial Law in the Philippines (1972-1981). It is based on “Ang Bagong Katipunero”, a musicale written and directed by lawyer Vince Tañada. This is a love story combined with the passion of two generations of couples who lived and suffered under Martial Law.

KATIPS is brought to Australia by the Australians for Philippine Human Rights Network (APHRN), a network of Filipino-Australians who advocate for human rights and peace in the Philippines, Australia, and other parts of the world.

“We have endeavoured to bring KATIPS to Australia because it will give Filipino-Australians a truthful account of history during a period of extreme social and political upheaval in the Philippines, which is now in real danger of being totally erased by the new government,” APHRN Lead Convenor Melba Marginson said.

APHRN is working in partnership with the following Filipino-Australian organizations:

TLR Australia (Team Leni Robredo), TSM Australia (The Silent Majority), Project HOPE-South Australia, KakamPINK Victoria, Maypagasa Network- Melbourne, Queenslanders for Leni, 1Sambayan Australia.
