No need to pay tax on Victorian COVID-19 grant payments to businesses

The Victorian Government’s COVID-19 business grant program payments have been declared non-assessable, non-exempt (NANE) income, and therefore are tax-free.

Those who haven’t yet filed their tax returns for the 2021–22 financial year can rest assured that payments they received from the Victorian Government COVID19 grant programs are not taxable.

The Australian Government has updated legislation to include several automatic payments under Victorian COVID19 support programs made during the lockdown period in 2021.

Businesses do not have to pay tax on payments or income defined as NANE, and they do not have to report it on their tax returns.
