Cebu Pacific’s Latest Campaign Offers Bargain-priced Fares to the Philippines

Cebu Pacific, Asia’s first low-cost airline and the Philippines’ largest airline, recently launched a new marketing campaign aimed at Australian travellers. The campaign features significantly reduced fares on its Melbourne and Sydney routes. This initiative coincides with the sixth anniversary of the airline’s service from Melbourne to Manila.

During an event at the W Hotel in Melbourne, attended by industry stakeholders, Carmina Romero, a spokesperson for Cebu Pacific, discussed the campaign’s goals.

“The Philippines has been somewhat of an under-the-radar destination for Australians, but we are seeing a growing interest as more travellers discover what our 7,000-island archipelago has to offer,” Romero said.

The campaign, themed “Fly to Happy, Fly to the Philippines,” draws attention to the Philippines’ reputation as a hub of happiness in Southeast Asia, a detail underscored by the 2024 World Happiness Report from the Oxford Wellbeing Research Centre. Romero added, “We aim to spread this happiness by making travel to the Philippines more accessible and enjoyable for Australians. Our country is not only home to some of the most stunning islands in the world but also the epicenter of marine biodiversity with numerous sites ideal for diving and boating.”

Additionally, Consul Ralph Abarquez highlighted the demand for more direct connections, noting that the Filipino community in Adelaide is particularly eager for a direct flight to the Philippines.

The potential for a direct route from Australia to Cebu was discussed at the launch, reflecting the growing hope and interest in expanded service options.

As part of the promotion, Cebu Pacific announced some of the lowest fares in its history, with prices starting at $289 for flights from Melbourne or Sydney to Manila. The promotional fares are available until April 30, with the travel period extending from May 1 to September 30, 2024.

Since initiating services to Melbourne in 2018, Cebu Pacific has been competitive in pricing, often offering 60-70% lower fares than other carriers. The airline now runs three weekly flights from Melbourne and five from Sydney.

Cebu Pacific has successfully restored its seat capacity to pre-pandemic levels, operating 2,700 weekly services across 108 routes to 59 destinations, including 24 international markets. The airline’s fleet consists of 80 aircraft, including 64 Airbus models, boasting one of the youngest fleets globally with an average age of six years.

Australia’s own travel board advises that the best time to visit the country is in spring and autumn, with cheaper summer flights reflecting lower demand during the warmer period when temperatures can reach in excess of 37 degrees Celsius.

Is Australia safer than the UK? 

Australia has a lower rate of assaults than the UK, at just 2.4 per million inhabitants compared to 2.8 in the UK, according to data from The Emigration Group. However, there are almost as many murders in Australia as there are in the UK per head of the population – though the overall level of violent crime in both countries is comparatively low.  

According to a survey by the group, the UK narrowly beats Australia in terms of public safety, reporting: 

“The United Kingdom takes this comparison. The murder rate is slightly lower, and, in general, respondents felt less fear and safer, according to our surveys. But the difference between the two countries is well within the margin of error, and with such low crime statistics, both countries make very safe destinations.”

Is it worth moving to Australia? 

The choice between Australia and the UK for residence will ultimately boil down to individual preferences. While Australia offers abundant sunshine and a relaxed lifestyle, the UK provides a more temperate climate and perceived safety.

Workshop series for emerging Filipino community leaders

Filipino community leadership workshops

The 125 Organizing Committee has initiated workshops to develop future leaders in the Filipino Community, focusing on improving crucial leadership skills.

This initiative follows the successful commemoration of the 125th anniversary of Philippine Independence, channelling the event’s surplus funds into a program designed to bolster event organizing, grant application writing, and public speaking abilities among emerging leaders.

The development of this initiative began in November 2023, when Consul General Maria Lourdes Salcedo, who was instrumental in the success of the Philippine Independence Day celebration events, proposed the idea. Subsequently, Lee Montajes of Motivationalee was enlisted to create a targeted training program, overcoming initial challenges to secure a lineup of skilled professionals for the workshops.

With financial stewardship ensuring the workshops consume only a portion of the celebration’s profits and with additional resources provided by the Philippine Consulate General (PCG) Melbourne, the program reflects a significant investment in the Filipino community leadership pipeline. The workshops have been designed to cover key areas vital for effective leadership and community engagement.

On April 13th, the inaugural session of the workshop series on Event Management took place. Led by industry experts Simon McCluskey and Liz Honey, participants delved into the core aspects of planning and executing successful events. The workshop emphasized practical skills such as creating efficient timelines, managing budgets, orchestrating logistics, and negotiating with vendors, equipping attendees with the tools needed for professional event management.

Over the next two Saturdays, the workshops series will cover the following areas vital for effective leadership and community engagement:

  • Public Speaking (April 20, 2024): Fleassy Malay and Lee Montajes will provide insights into overcoming the fear of public speaking, building confidence, and crafting and delivering impactful presentations.
  • Grant Letter Writing (April 27, 2024): Donna Gross and Melba Marginson will introduce the fundamentals of grant writing, emphasizing its importance for securing funding and guiding attendees on how to identify opportunities and craft compelling proposals.

This series of workshops represents a forward-looking effort to empower the Filipino community’s aspiring leaders, providing them with critical skills needed to lead effectively and make meaningful contributions to the community.
