PCC-NSW hosts with APCO the Philippine National Day Ball 2023

In celebration of the 125th anniversary of the proclamation of the Philippine independence on the 12th of June, the Philippine Community Council of NSW, Inc. (PCC-NSW), in association with the Alliance of Philippine Community Organisations (APCO), hosted the Philippine National Day Ball 2023 at Doltone House in Bossley Park.

The guests of honour of the occasion were our Philippine Ambassador to Australia, H.E. Maria Hellen De La Vega, the Governor of the State of New South Wales, H.E. The Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC and Parliamentary Secretary for Industrial Relations, Parliamentary Secretary for Work Health and Safety and Parliamentary Secretary for Multiculturalism, The Honourable Mark Robert Buttigieg, MLC.  

This year’s celebration caries the theme, “Kalayaan. Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan.” (Freedom. Future. History.). About 450 guests attended the event which was opened by Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao dance production. Acknowledgement of country was led by PCC-NSW Director Maria Satorre-Salazar. The Philippine national anthem was sung by Queeness Gutierrez while the Australian national anthem was led by Chloe Lofthouse. APCO President Jhun Salazar and PCC-NSW President Cesar Bartolome gave the invocation and welcome address, respectively.  

“We honor the sacrifices of past and modern-day heroes and commit to our country’s security, success and prosperity. I urge fellow Filipinos in Australia to continue supporting our country, invest in the opportunities that we offer and promote our creativity and ingenuity. The Filipino-Australian community is an integral part of the historic and dynamic partnership of the Philippines and Australia. As the fifth largest migrant community at over 400,000 strong, you have reinforced the strength, diversity and success of Australia.”, H.E. Ambassador De La Vega stated and encouraged.

“We also celebrate the Filipino people, their rich cultural heritage and diversity and the close and affectionate bonds between our two countries. The contributions made by the community you support to the economic dynamism and cultural vibrancy of New South Wales is beyond measure.”, H.E. The Honourable Governor Beazley AC KC said.

A ceremonial toast by H.E. Ambassador De La Vega and H.E. The Honourable Governor Beazley AC KC followed suit.  The Honourable Parliament Secretary Buttigieg, MLC also gave his message to the Filipino-Australians gathered for the occasion. Performances include a singing quartet by prominent artists Lilian de los Reyes and Rod Dingle who were joined by Albert Prias and Jojo Sebastian.  Dance showcase was performed by Joshua O’Grady and Stephanie Cappas. Sponsors were acknowledged by PCC-NSW President Bartolome and Director Cathy Indac. Immediate Past PCC-NSW President Alric Bulseco was also presented. Final acknowledgement was done by PCC-NSW Internal Vice President Grace Liston. The celebration was concluded by a Rigodon Royale choreographed by Jojo Sebastian which was presented by the PCC-NSW affiliates.

Filipino Australians have made a vital contribution to our growing and cooperative friendship, and to the success of Australia as a multicultural and multi-faith country.”, The Honourable Anthony Albanese, MP Australian Prime Minister’s message to the Filipino-Australian community.
