Former Wyndham Deputy Mayor Walter Villagonzalo has announced that he will be running as an Independent Candidate in the Upper House for the Western Metropolitan Region at the Victorian State Election this coming November 26, 2022.

“With humility, I seek the vote and support of the residents of the Western Metropolitan Region,” Villagonzalo posted on his Facebook account.

Villagonzalo has been a local resident of the Western Metropolitan Region for 36 years and has served the community for most of those years.

“I have been an advocate for local jobs for local residents, more social and economic inclusion, more active citizenship, more support to small business and urgent solution to environmental issues,” Villagonzalo said.

“I have not just been talking about issues I care about. I have been practicing what I have been preaching.”

Villagonzalo is an active volunteer in the Filipino and migrant communities, the wider Wyndham and western suburbs community.

“As a practitioner and champion for social enterprise, I have organised co-operatives and social enterprises and continue to mentor community organisations in developing their social enterprise ventures. I have initiated programs to increase the tree canopy cover of our region, implement community energy programs and address the need for more affordable housing,” Villagonzalo said.

The former Councilor of Wyndham City believes local residents should be represented in Parliament by locals who understand the local issues and can be more passionate advocates.

“As your representative, I will listen to your concerns and be an active voice and advocate in State Parliament where I wish to continue to serve,” Villagonzalo said.
