Sydney-based writer and Philippine entertainment guru, James R. Tekiko has written and compiled stories from an era and published his first book ‘Dekada 90’. As a well connected professional in the Philippine entertainment industry, Tekiko takes readers through a walk down memory lane, giving an opportunity to relive some of the biggest news in an industry well followed by Filipinos around the world.

Dekada ’90: Rumours, Facts and Chismax brings us to the centre of the action of the 90’s, capturing the celebrity interviews and feature articles that stood out from the glory days of Philippine film and music. With 25 years of experience in writing, Tekiko’s book includes carefully selected articles that readers will enjoy.

“Articles published in his book were chosen based on the popularity of celebrities during that era, historical/cultural importance, uniqueness/quirkiness of the material and entertainment value,” he says.

“The 90’s was a pinnacle for love teams, young teenagers, network wars, sexy films, and action movies. Celebrities featured in this book include Nora Aurnor, Vilma Santos, Sharon Cuneta, Rosana Roces, Regine Velasquez, Christopher De Leon and Aga Muhlach. Many more are featured from TV stars, comedians, directors and OPM bands.

“These were hard-hitting interviews that address burning issues at that time,” says Tekiko.”

“It is a nice introduction to the millennials about who’s who during the 90’s and a walk down memory lane to those who were lucky enough to have witness it,” he says.

James is now promoting his book to Filipino migrants around Australia, which includes a visit to Melbourne and a book launch at Tambayan Restaurant, Cairnlea Victoria on April 1.

His involvement in the entertainment industry grow after becoming a writer for a Graphic Arts publication in 1995. He was also a junior writer for the TV show Martin Late at Night, and also a concept developer for Star Cinema.

James Tekiko is proud of his history in nursing, having worked as Clinical Facilitator, Lecturer, Educator for different colleges like FEU, Martinez Memorial Colleges, University of Santo Tomas and Chinese Gen. He is a Cum Laude graduate of the UST College of Nursing Batch 1991, and finished his Master of Arts in Nursing Administration and Supervision in 2009 at University of La Salette.

He moved to Australia in 2012. Nowadays James Tekiko is a motivational speaker, concert producer for Sydney shows, and now publisher of his new book, while working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at the Prince of Wales Hospital.

As a passionate writer, he felt the need to document and preserve the important stories through his book publication. “The 90’s was the peak of Philippine entertainment industry. But sadly, written documents about it have not been kept for posterity. There was no internet then to chronicle the happenings of the era. Closure of the publishing companies that produced magazines and newspapers cemented the fate of the languishing industry,” says Tekiko.
