In Australia, we turn on a tap and most times we get clean drinking water. But in the Philippines, remote communities in particular are not so lucky. This is why the Rotary Club of Brimbank Central decided two years ago to provide clean drinking water to the community of Barangay Mabuhay Sison Surigao del Norte . This was done through a series of impounding tanks and finally ended up in a water tank for the Mamanwa community as well as a tank at the Sison Primary School.
The following year, three deep wells with electric pumps, filters, and water tanks were installed in schools in Pampanga. These were the Sampang Kawayan, Consuelo, and Dalayap Elementary and High Schools. Together with these projects, school supplies, birthing kits, and clothing were sent to areas affected by the cyclones in Luzon and Davao as well as the recent earthquake in Negros. With these major projects, we were able to increase our funding through Rotary District Grants and all monies collected were spent on these projects in the Philippines.
So that the Rotary Club of Brimbank Central can help continue helping our poor kababayans back home, we are inviting the Filipino community and their friends and colleagues to attend our “Fresh Water for All Charity Ball” on 23March 2013 at Grand Star Receptions in Altona North.
