Jose Rizal honoured on 117th death anniversary

NSW–The Rizal Park Movement of Campbeltown and the Order of the Knights of Rizal, Sydney held a wreath-laying ceremony in commemoration of the 117th death anniversary and martyrdom of Philippine National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal. The event was held on 29 December 2013, 10.30am at Rizal Park, Anthony Drive, Rosemeadow, Campbelltown.

The ceremony was led by Hon Anne Jalando-on Louis, Consul General, Sydney; Cr. Clinton Mead, Mayor, Campbelltown City; Mr Rey Manoloto, President, Rizal Park Movement of Campbelltown and Ms Lourdes Kaiser; Sirs Cesar Bartolome, KCR and Philip Ranoso, KCR. Filipino community members and leaders, as well as guests, witnessed the wreath-laying rites while the song “Aawitan Kang Lagi” was sang by members of the Sydney Sonata Singers namely Rachel Zarate and Ramon Rodil.

A lecture was also given by Sir Floro Quibuyen, PhD., KOR. He talked about “Rizal sowed the idea; Bonifacio brought it to fruition.”

The event concluded with a community picnic and parlour games.
