Celebrating the Maestro with Ryan, Ryan Musikahan in Melbourne

A remarkable musical event “Ryan, Ryan Musikahan – The Melbourne Concert” featuring the Philippines’ National Artist for Music, Maestro Ryan Cayabyab will be held on 1 September 2024 at the Williamstown Town Hall.

Known as Mr. C, Ryan Cayabyab’s career spans over five decades, making him a prominent figure in the world of music both in the Philippines and internationally. His contributions to music range from pop songs to choral works and orchestral pieces. His iconic compositions like “Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika” have become beloved classics and his compositions such as “Da Coconut Nut” and “Paraiso” have been a part of many concert programs all over the world.

Beyond his impressive repertoire, Cayabyab has received numerous prestigious awards globally. Notably, he is a Ramon Magsaysay Awardee, an honour often dubbed the Asian Nobel Prize, recognising his significant contributions to music and cultural advocacy. His accolades also include the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice from Pope Francis, the Grand Prize at the Tokyo Music Festival and many more.

The Melbourne concert will not only feature the Maestro himself but also an array of talented performers. The Ryan Cayabyab Singers (RCS) will be celebrating their 17th anniversary. Formed by Cayabyab to train and nurture young talents, the RCS has become synonymous with the distinctive harmony and excellence of Cayabyab’s musical arrangements. Despite changes in membership over the years, the group maintains a unified sound that is unmistakably their own.

The producer of the concert emphasised the significance of this event, not only as a celebration of Cayabyab’s achievements but also as a platform to introduce his music to a broader audience. Known for his mentorship through initiatives like the PhilPop Music Camp and the A Cappella Open, Cayabyab’s influence extends far beyond his own performances, fostering the next generation of musical talents.

Among the front acts is Justin Abella, who balances his daytime job with a passion for singing. He frequently performs with Joshua Condor as part of the Just Friends Band. Another star is Kaye Esco, a Melbourne-based singer deeply rooted in the local music scene. Kaye, who leads the band SOULthentic, has opened for notable artists like Sarah Geronimo and Christian Bautista. Miguel Valdivia, known as Mike, will also grace the stage. A Filipino-Australian musician and the founder of the Kalapati band, Mike has composed over 50 original songs and actively participated in benefit concerts for causes such as Typhoon Yolanda Relief.

As Mr. C celebrates his 70th birthday and the RCS marks their 17th year, this concert is a tribute to their enduring legacy. It is an opportunity for Filipino Australians and other nationalities to experience the musical genius of Mr. C and appreciate the rich cultural heritage he represents. “The RCS celebrated their 17th anniversary quietly but with immense gratitude to the Maestro, who has tirelessly trained them to become seasoned performers. Over the years, members have come and gone, but the one constant is the distinctive RCS sound, which embodies the harmony and vocal skills of a Ryan Cayabyab arrangement,” the producers stated in an interview with The Philippine Times. “Even if you’re not familiar with Ryan Cayabyab, this is the perfect opportunity to discover his extraordinary talent and musical genius,” they added.
